Family Session - Christchurch Botanic Gardens
As a Christchurch photographer, one of my favorite things is capturing genuine family moments during beautiful golden hour light — and my recent family session with Ruth and her lovely family at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens was exactly that.
When I arrived, Ruth and her family were waiting just outside the Visitors Centre, full of anticipation for their photoshoot. I walked over and greeted them, and immediately started chatting with their wee girl. Holding my camera in hand the whole time, we talked about her name, her age, what school she goes to, and all the exciting things she’d been up to that day.
She casually mentioned they were waiting for a "photo lady" to arrive and take their pictures — little did she know, she was already talking to her! Ruth and I shared a good laugh when I told her I was the photo lady. It was such a sweet moment to connect with the family naturally before even starting the session.
The whole shoot was full of fun and laughter. We played games, chased after birds, and even got to watch some adorable baby ducklings swimming nearby. The golden hour sunset cast the most beautiful warm glow over the gardens, making the photos even more magical.
Sessions like these remind me why I love being a Christchurch family photographer — capturing authentic joy and those fleeting moments of childhood in one of our city’s most stunning locations.
